Frequently Asked Questions

Solar energy is the radiant energy from the sun that can be harnessed and converted into usable forms of power, such as electricity. Here’s how it works:

  1. Solar Panels Capture Sunlight:

    • Solar panels, made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, absorb sunlight. These cells are typically made from semiconductor materials like silicon.
  2. Photovoltaic Effect Generates Electricity:

    • When sunlight hits the PV cells, it creates an electric field that generates direct current (DC) electricity.
  3. Inverter Converts Electricity:

    • The DC electricity is sent to an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity. AC is the type of electricity used in homes and businesses.
  4. Power Your Home or Business:

    • The converted electricity powers your appliances, lights, and other electrical systems. Any excess electricity can be stored in batteries or sent back to the grid through net metering programs.
  5. Sustainable and Renewable:

    • Solar energy is a clean, renewable resource that helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels, decreases greenhouse gas emissions, and lowers electricity costs.

The cost of solar panel installation depends on the size of the system, your location, and energy needs. We offer free consultations to assess your requirements and provide a customized quote based on your budget and goals.

  • Financing Plans: Solar loans, leases, and Green Energy's Power Purchase Program (PPA) can help you install solar with little to no upfront cost.
  • Incentives and Tax Credits: Take advantage of federal tax credits like the 30% Investment Tax Credit (ITC), along with state and local rebates that reduce costs further.
  • Long-term Savings: Solar panels reduce electricity bills, often paying for themselves over time with average savings significantly outweighing the initial investment.

The timeline for installing solar panels can vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, but here’s a general breakdown:

  1. Initial Assessment and Design (1-3 Weeks):

    • In the initial meetings GECC will conduct a site visit to assess your roof, energy needs, and any obstacles. Based on this, they design a custom solar system for your property.  When a design and pricing is agreed upon contracts will be produced for signature.
  2. Permitting and Approvals (2-8 Weeks):

    • GECC handles the required permits and approvals from local authorities and your utility company. Timelines vary depending on your location and jurisdiction.
  3. Installation (1-5 Days):

    • Once permits are approved, the actual installation of the solar panels and related equipment usually takes just a few days for residential systems. Commercial systems might take longer due to their size and complexity.

Solar energy is a cost-effective and stable investment:

  • Lower Energy Costs: As of December 2024, the average residential electricity rate in the United States is approximately 16.54 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

In Pennsylvania, the average rate is around 17 cents per kWh.

In contrast, solar electricity can average as low as 7 cents per kWh, offering significant savings over time.

  • Fixed Energy Prices: By investing in solar, you can lock in energy costs for 25+ years, shielding yourself from the typical annual grid price increases, which have averaged around 3.5% since 2000.

  • Earn Revenue: Through programs like Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) or net metering, homeowners can sell excess energy back to the grid, creating additional income streams.

Yes, installing solar panels adds value to your property:

Yes, Green Energy's Power Purchase Program.

In recent times, Utilities are publishing increased energy rates unpredictably making it difficult for businesses to budget energy costs.  In addition, rising infrastructure costs promise to accelerate these increases at an alarming rate.

  •  As of December 2024, the average residential electricity rate in the United States is approximately 16.54 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

In Pennsylvania, the average rate is around 17 cents per kWh.

In response to a growing customer need, Green Energy has developed direct relationships with solar investors to create a direct-sourced Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) program for our customers.

Program Highlights

  • No Capital Outlay
  • No Maintenance Responsibilities
  • Performance Guarantees
  • Easy to manage "per kWh" pricing
  • Program eliminates costs of financial middlemen with similar programs
  • Potential to include EV Chargers, roofing improvements, etc.

Yes, several government incentives can make installing solar panels more affordable for homeowners and businesses:

  1. Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC):

  2. State and Local Incentives:

  3. Net Metering Programs:

    • These programs allow you to sell excess solar energy back to the grid, effectively lowering your utility bills.
    • Learn more about net metering through your local utility provider or visit SEIA’s Net Metering Guide.
  4. Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs):

    • Homeowners can earn credits for the renewable energy their solar system generates and sell them in states with Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS).
    • To see if your state offers SRECs, check this guide.

These programs and incentives can help offset the initial costs of solar installation and maximize your savings. Be sure to consult with your solar installer to ensure you take full advantage of these benefits.

Solar panels typically last 25 to 30 years. They are durable and low-maintenance, with most systems performing at high efficiency throughout their lifespan. After this period, efficiency may gradually decrease, but most systems still produce energy.

Yes, modern solar panels are highly efficient in diverse climates:

  • Efficiency in Diffused Light: Panels generate power even on cloudy days.
  • Better in Cold Weather: Panels operate more efficiently in cooler temperatures.
  • Energy Storage: Pair your system with a battery for energy access during cloudy days or at night.

Solar panels are designed for durability and ease of maintenance:

  • Minimal Maintenance: Panels need occasional cleaning to remove dust, debris, or snow.
  • Built to Last: Most systems come with warranties of 20-25 years and can endure harsh weather.
  • Professional Support: We offer maintenance packages for your peace of mind.

Modern solar systems are sleek and customizable:
